Chino, Marie Z. – Seedpot with Interlocking Butterfly Design (1970s)

8"w x 6"h

$ 1,600.00

This is a classically designed seedpot by Marie Z. Chino.  The piece is from the 1970s and it is a tightly painted piece that incorporates the “op-art” style of design in Acoma pottery.  The piece is coil built, painted with bee-weed (a plant), and traditionally fired.  The design is a very complicated black and white interlocking butterfly pattern.  Between each butterfly is a lightning and rain design. The complex pattern has a very dynamic appearance to the eye.  It was inspired by Chaco Canyon black and white style pottery.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Marie Z. Chino”.
