Chino, Marie Z. – Small Jar with Checkerboard Designs (1960s)

1.75"w x 2.5"h

$ 200.00

This is a charming mini jar by Marie Z. Chino.  Marie is famous as one of the revivalists at Acoma Pueblo, along with Lucy M. Lewis, Jessie Garcia, and a few others.  This bowl is thin-walled and painted with bee-weed (black). The jar has a low shoulder and elongated neck.  It has four rows of checkerboard designs.  They alternate between white and fine-line rain designs.  The jar was traditionally fired so there are some very slight color variations to the white.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “M. Z. Chino”.
