Cling, Alice – 10″ Tall Long Neck Jar with Incised Birds
$ 700.00
This is a striking tall water jar by Alice Cling. Alice Cling is one of the great names in the revival of Navajo pottery in the 1980s. This jar is coil-built and stone polished. This jar has a narrow base, a sharp shoulder and elongated neck. The top of the shoulder has four incised birds as a design. They are incised with small triangular intentions. It is a striking variation in her style. The jar was traditionally fired outdoors and has strong colorations from black to red on the surface. The jar was covered in pinon-pitch after the firing, a continuation of the traditional Navajo pottery when the pitch was used to make the pottery utilitarian. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Alice Cling”. Alice has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “Legacy of Generations.”
