This is a classic jar by Alice Cling.  It has a high shoulder and a short neck and shape for which Alice is well-known.  This jar is coil-built and stone polished.  The jar was traditionally fired outdoors and has strong colorations from black to red on the surface.  The jar was covered in pinon-pitch after the firing, a continuation of the traditional Navajo pottery when the pitch was used to make the pottery utilitarian.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Alice Cling”.  Alice has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “Legacy of Generations.”
