This plate was made, polished, and incised by Debra Duwyenie.  The design on the front is fully polished and full of imagery. The design is a flowering plant that extends up from the vase.  Each of the flowers is etched into the clay and the center of each is matte, which is just where the polished slip has been etched away.  For nearly every flower is a hummingbird or butterfly, each of which is also etched into the clay and with matte bellies.  There are 22 hummingbirds and at least eight butterflies on the plate!  Near the top are a sun and rainbow.  The rim is fully etched with cloud designs.  The back is very highly polished to a glassy shine!  Interestingly, Debra does all her etching before the piece is fired, so the recessed matte area has its own linear design.  The piece is signed, “Debra”.
