Frey, Jeremy – Wide Blue & Black Urchin Basket With Lid

8"w x 5"h

$ 3,200.00

This is an intricately woven basket by Jeremy Frey.  The basket is made from black ash and Sweetgrass.  Jeremy said that when he first began to innovate and evolve his basket making, his first focus was on artistry.  This basket has blue-dyed points over the black bands. Urchin baskets are named after the sea urchin commonly found on the shores of Maine. This design dates back to the early years of fancy basket weaving.  The handle on the lid is intricately woven with his signature checkerboard pattern.  Look as well at the area surrounding the top of the lid with the very small points and the thin weaving!  Jeremy said that he began weaving more complex designs on his lid handles after working with some weavers in Hawaii.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jeremy Frey 2020”.
