This is one of the few red-fired pieces by Effie Garcia.  It is her classic shape with a narrow base and wide shoulder.  The bowl is deeply carved with a water serpent (avanyu) design.  The body of the avanyu is made up of waves.  Note the depth of the carving and how she has outlined the design with the clay for emphasis.  The surface is stone polished and the piece is traditionally fired red.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Effie & Orville Garcia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
