Garcia, Felicita Montoya -Carved and Incised Mesa Design Bowl (1970’s)

4.5"w x 3"h

$ 200.00

Felicita Garcia was a daughter of noted San Juan potter Tomasita Montoya.  She learned to make pottery from her mother and created extraordinary vessels in the revival styles.  She was not a prolific potter but each piece was coil-built and traditionally fired.  This bowl is polished red on the neck and base. The center band is both carved and incised. The more deeply carved areas create a mountain and mesa design. The incised triangular areas are clouds.  The designs are highlighted with white and red clay.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Felicita Garcia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
