Garcia, Jason – Polychrome Jar with Butterflies and Butterfly Dancer

This jar by Jason Garcia is coil built and painted with native clay slips.  It is a very intricate piece. On one side is a Pueblo style butterfly dancer.  She is surrounded by numerous butterflies.  As the jar is turned there are a variety of different butterflies.  They are each painted with natural clay slips.  The entire jar is painted before it is fired.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Okuu Pin” which is Jason’s name in Tewa and means “Turtle Mountain”.
