Jason Garcia is known for his creative clay tiles that incorporate scenes from Santa Clara Pueblo and the Pueblo world. This tile continues his series of Pueblo women in the modern world. The piece is entitled, “P’osuwaegeh Girls at Blakes” and takes place in winter (see the snowy peaks behind them). They are carrying water jars on their heads and standing in front of the new Blake’s Lot-a-Burger in Pojoaque. In the sky is his signature raincloud. Jason has been using new clays he inherited from his aunt, Minnie Vigil and the colors are bold and vibrant. The tile is made from native clay. All of the colors are derived from Native clay, which is traditionally fired. It is signed on the back “Okuu Pin” which is Jason’s name in Tewa (which means Turtle Mountain).
