Rose Gonzales is often considered the first at San Ildefonso Pueblo to make carved pottery. However, over the course of her career, she created a variety of styles including plainware, painted, and carved pottery.  This bowl is one of her classic shapes and designs.  It has a sharp shoulder and sloping sides.  It is deeply carved in her classic “cameo style”. There are rain, lighting, and cloud designs. The jar was fired to a striking silvery gunmetal coloraiton.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Rose”.  It is in very good condition with no crack, restoration or repair.
