Gonzales, Tse-Pe – Large Terrace Bowl with Bear and Avanyu (1990s)

9.25"w x 8"h

$ 1,225.00

Tse-Pe Gonzales was a son of noted potter Rose Gonzales.  This is one of the larger pieces we have had of his work.  It is a traditional terrace bowl.  The shape has a step design on one side, which represents the mountains.  The bowl represents the lake below the mountains.  This is a classic shape in San Ildefonso pottery.  This piece is slipped with mica and there is a bear on the terrace side.  The bear has an inset bead for the eye.  Surrounding the bowl has an avanyu (water serpent) encircling the piece.  It has a turquoise bead for the eye.  The entire piece is slipped with mica, which gives it a beautiful sparkle and coloration.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay with Tse-Pe’s hallmark, “TP”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
