Tse-Pe Gonzales was a son of noted potter Rose Gonzales.  This jar is from the 1980s and the front is polished.  The color of the plate is a combination of red and green clays with mica and then stone polished.  It is incised with a heartline bear along with cloud and rain designs.  Note the tight etching of the lines and the mottled background area that has been cut away that is slipped white.  It is a striking use of color and design.  There is a single off set piece of turquoise in front of the bear.  The plate is signed on the back with Tse-Pe’s hallmark, “TP”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
