Honyumptewa, Aaron – Picuris Jar with Handles

5"w x 4"h

$ 175.00

Aaron Honyumptewa is both Hopi and Picuris. He is known for his very intricately carved award-winning katinsa dolls. Over the past few years, he has been living in Picuris Pueblo in New Mexico, the home of his mother and family, and learned to make pottery from his mother.  The pottery is a traditional style of Picuris pueblo, and Aaron says he hopes to help revive the art form!  This jar is made from Picuris micaceous clay.  It has a round body, handles and an elongated neck.  The piece is coil-built and thin walled.  The clay itself is a beautiful coloration with the classic gold clay color.  It was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  The jar is signed, “Aaron Honyumptewa”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
