This a very detailed large seedpot by Joseph Lonewolf. It is from 1985 and is fully polished. The entire surface was fully etched with 21 figures before it was fired. Each figure is engaged in a separate activity, from playing a drum to catching a rabbit. Joseph always said that etching figures were more difficult, as he wanted to give them personality and individuality. They are each styled after Mimbres figures. Each has a different loincloth and note the movement with each figure. There is even a few children and a Mimbres dog! While it might seem like a simple design, the lines and detail for each figure, and doing 21 of them on one piece must have been very time-consuming! Near the base is a geometric cloud design. There is also a star, the yearly symbol for 1985. In addition to the sgraffito designs, there are white and green clay slips used to accentuate the figures. The piece is very highly polished and intricately designed. It is signed on the bottom, “Joseph Lonewolf”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
