She said of this painting:

St. Frances is a painting honoring my mother.  He name was Frances Moquqian (which means ‘Flying over the Earth’).  I wanted to use the classic two-dimenstional style of painting to create a sense of history and balance.  My mother was from Standing Rock so I painted sage to as a subtle reflection of her hertiage.”

Sheridan MacKnight (Hunkpapa Lakota, White Earth Chippewa) is a painter whose work reflects a contemporary Native American perspective with spirituality and grace.

“My work honors my Native American roots, and to the strong and spiritual devotions of my people. I am Lakota from the Hunkpapa clan and Chippewa from the White Earth Band. My images reflect the heart and emotion of my relations, be it historically or in the present time in the narration of the composition.  My process, practice, and narrative reflect my heritage, a culture of women, regalia, love, prayer, hope, emotion, and hardship. Through my work, I tell a story of resilience, which draws strength through historic photographs and ledger art, championing Native American women and children.”

Sheridan has won awards at Satna Fe Indian Market, The Heard Museum Market and been part of museum shows at MoCNA, the Hood Museum (Darthmouth), the Heard Museum, and the Hammer Museum (LA).
