This is a traditional water jar by Samuel Manymules. The jar is coil built and has a round shoulder and a short neck. The jar is stone-polished tan, the natural color of the clay. Around the shoulder of the jar is a band carved with interlocking clouds. The designs are tightly carved and striking in appearance. The jar was traditionally fired creating striking colorations on the surface. After the firing, it was covered in pinon pitch in the traditional way expected of Navajo pottery. It is signed on the bottom, “SM”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
