This is a classic water jar by Samuel Manymules.  The jar is coil built and has a round shape and a short neck.  The jar is stone-polished tan, the natural color of the clay. Around the neck is a single raised piece of clay that is textured.  It creates a “rainbow” band and there is a spirit line as the opening in the raised band.  The jar was traditionally fired creating striking colorations on the surface.  After the firing, it was covered in pinon pitch in the traditional way expected of Navajo pottery. It is signed on the bottom, “SM”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
