Manymules, Samuel – Tan Swirl Melon Jar

8"w x 5.5"h

$ 900.00

This is a melon jar by Samuel Manymules.  The jar is coil built and has a round shape and a short neck.  The jar is stone-polished tan, the natural color of the clay.  The piece has swirling melon ribs that are pushed out from the inside.  It is always amazing to think about how Samuel is able to maintain symmetry in the swirls just using his hands to shape each rib!  The jar was traditionally fired creating striking colorations on the surface.  After the firing, it was covered in pinon pitch in the traditional way expected of Navajo pottery. It is signed on the bottom, “SM”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
