This is a classic Zia water jar by Elizabeth Medina.  She is known for her traditional style of Zia pottery.  Each piece is coil built, painted with native clays, and native fired.  The jar has two old-style deer painted around the neck.  Separating them are flowers.  There is complex painting in the hatchwork designs.  Below the shoulder are four different Zia birds.  Each bird is painted differently and the red and brown colorations are stone polished.  They are separated by lines of rain designs.  It is a wonderfully complex and intricately painted jar!  The jar signed on the side “Elizabeth Medina, Zia”.
