Naha, Burel – Wedding Vase with Sikyatki Bird

4.75"w x 10"h

$ 900.00

This is a classic wedding vase by Burel Naha.  He is the son of Helen “Featherwoman” Naha and a brother of Rainy Naha and Sylvia Naha.  While he no longer makes much pottery, he was well known for his intricately painted pieces and especially the use of the spider design.  The shape of the wedding vase is similar to that of Helen’s with the tall shoulder a elongated spouts.  The piece is fully polished white and painted on each side with a Sikyatki inspired bird. The tail of the bird extends up the spout and the tail in near the bottom.  The piece is painted using bee-weed (black) and two colors of clay slip on a white kaolin clay surface.  The wedding vase was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom with a feather and a Long Hair katsina, which is his hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
