Naha, Rainy – Jar with Moth and Dragonflies and Pottery Shards

7.5"w x 5"h

$ 2,200.00

Rainy Naha is well known for her creative and intricately designed pottery.  This jar is a new variation of her designs.  It has a moth or butterfly on one side and dragonflies on the other side.  There are three large dragonflies, each with different wing styles. They are surrounded by “old style” linear dragonflies.  The opposite side has a larger butterfly.  Separating them are two sections of pottery “shards”.  The shards are inspired by the various Hopi-Tewa pottery patterns Rainy and her family have created over the years.  She has designed them in abstracts forms as if they are pottery shards placed on the surface of the jar!  The black areas are painted with bee-weed and the various colors are all derived from natural clay slips. Note how some of the colors are polished and some are matte.  The jar was traditionally fired and it is signed on the bottom with a feather and “Rainy”.  Rainy has won numerous awards for her pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Market and her work continues to be a creative inspiration in Hopi-Tewa pottery.
