Naha, Tyra – 10″ Plate with Turtle Design

10" diameter

$ 650.00

Tyra Naha is a daughter of Rainy Naha.   She learned to make pottery from her mother and continues to make traditional-style Hopi-Tewa pottery in the style of her grandmother, Helen “Feather Woman” Naha.  This large plate fully polished on the front and back.  The central design is a turtle representing the Water Clan, and there is a rainbow design around the edge.  Note the “back” of the turtle. There are eight connected cloud and rain designs.  It is painted with bee-weed (black) and colorful clay slips.  It was traditionally fired and signed on the back with a feather and spider (Spider Clan ).
