Nampeyo, Camille “Hisi”- Small Jar with Bird Wing Design (1990s)

3.5"w x 2.75"h

$ 500.00

Camille “Hisi” Nampeyo learned to make pottery from her mother, Dextra Quotskuyva, a sister of noted painter Dan Namingha and a descendant of Nampeyo of Hano, Annie Healing and Rachel Nampeyo.  She is known for her use of traditional imagery and the delicate painting of her designs.  This small jar is coil built and stone polihsed.  The design is an interlocking bird wing pattern.  It is also sometimes referred to as a “blackbird” migration as opposed to the classic migration pattern with the lines.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Hisi Nampeyo” and an ear of corn for Corn Clan.
