Naranjo, Johnathan – “Deer Dance” Four Sided Jar (2014)

4"w x 5.5"h

$ 1,000.00

This is an extraordinary jar by Johnathan Naranjo.  The jar has flat sides so that there are four panels of work and yet the seamlessly blend together.  There is a Deer Dancer, a Drummer, a deer and the Pueblo.  Each is outlined by deeply etching into the clay.  The body of the drummer and dancer are both etched into the surface of the clay and note the exceptional detail in the work.  The light red matte areas are where Johnathan has only lightly etched into the surface of the jar.  This is a difficult technique to master but one which has become a trademark to Johanthan’s intricate and realistic style.  The pueblo is amazingly designed and the deer has a life-like appearance.  Note as well the small panels of design near the base.  Johnathan pays great attention to the details in his pottery.  It’s these little details which are certainly what makes his work so distinctive and exciting!  It is signed on the bottom.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
