Naranjo, Kevin & Marian Rose – “Three Elk at Puye Cliffs” Black and Sienna Jar

Kevin Naranjo is known for his realistic etched pottery.  This jar has an unusual oval shape with one side higher than the other.  The jar is fully polished and then etched with design.  There is a mountain design around the rim.  The body of the jar has three large realistic elk etched into the clay.  In the background are the ancient pueblo buildings at Puye.  There are trees, aspens, and plants as part of the design.  After the jar was fired black, it was two-toned sienna in areas to accentuate the details. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repairs.  It is signed “Kevin Naranjo and Marian Rose”.

Kevin Naranjo is a son of noted potter Geri Naranjo and a brother of Monica Romero. He is known for the realism of his etched pottery and over the years has won numerous awards for his pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Market.
