Navasie, Charles – Bowl with Frog Design (1990s)

9"w x 3.75"h

$ 750.00

Charles Navasie is a grandson of noted potter Joy “Frogwoman” Navasie and the son of Loretta Navasie. This bowl is wide in shape and has a flat top.  The design on the top of the piece is a frog.  Of course, the frog is the hallmark for the Navasie family.  The frog is tightly patined and has a variety of traditional Hopi-Tewa designs, and even tadpoles!  Below the shoulder are cloud designs. The bowl was slipped with white clay and painted with bee-weed (black) and dark red clay.  It was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom with his stylized frog hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
