Seferina created traditional style Cochiti pottery figures and vessels. This is one of her classic figures. It is in the style of the historic “monos” figures made in the late 1800’s at Cochiti Pueblo. Their purpose was to reveal the world around them and also as social critique. This figure is double-headed, and this concept originated with the Siamese twins of the traveling circuses in the area. The figure has defined faces, hands and it is painted with native clay slips and wild spinach plant for the black. It was traditionally fired and in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed, “Seferina Ortiz”.
