Seferina Ortiz is the matriarch of a family of renowned potters, including Virgil Ortiz, Janice Ortiz, and Lisa Holt. This is a wide shoulder jar with rain clouds around the rim.  There are four traditional rain clouds painted around the top of the shoulder. The jar has clouds around the shoulder.  It is a classic series of Cochiti designs.  The jar is painted with bee-weed (black) on a white clay slip.  This style of design is reminiscent of the work of her mother, Laurencita Herrara.  It is signed on the bottom “Seferina Ortiz”.  It was traditionally fired and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
