Polacca Nampeyo, Vernida – Jar with Bat Wing Design

4"w x 3"h

$ 200.00

Vernida Polacca Nampeyo is a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano and a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo. Her father, Harold Polacca, was a son of Fannie. She is a sister of noted potters Clinton Polacca and Reva Ami. Vernida is known for her finely painted traditionally designed Hopi pottery.  This jar is fully polished and painted with four bat wings as the design.  They extend down over the shoulder.  NOte the detail of the thin lines!  The top is polished red.  The jar was traditionally fired, which created blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Vernida Polacca Nampeyo”.
