Polacca Nampeyo, Vernida – Seedpot with Bat Wing Design
Vernida Polacca Nampeyo is a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano and a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo. Her father, Harold Polacca, was a son of Fannie. She is a sister of noted potters Clinton Polacca and Reva Ami. Vernida is known for her finely painted traditionally designed Hopi pottery. This seedpot is fully polished and painted with four bat wings as the design. They extend down toward the shoulder. The seedpot was traditionally fired, which created the blushes on the surface. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Vernida Polacca Nampeyo”.
