Shawna Garcia-Rustin (b.1969) is from Acoma Pueblo.  Patrick Rustin (b. 1970) is Apache from the San Carlos Reservation.  He began making pottery in 1991 and created pieces with nearly paper-thin walls.  During their time together, they won numerous awards for their pottery. This piece is coil-built and has their signature sculpted rim with interconnected pieces of clay. Below the sculpted rim the jar is very tightly corrugated in a triangular pattern.  The neck of the jar has fine-line stars. The body has large medallions with plant designs.  They are separated by fine-line cloud designs.  It is highly detailed and striking in person as well, the piece feels like it is paper thin!  The jar is from 2000 and it is signed, “S. P. Garcia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
