Silas, Bobby – Zuni Water Jar with 14 Heartline Deer
Bobby Silas is a creative potter reviving ancient designs for his contemporary pottery. He had originally learned to make pottery in 2004-5 when he attended Zuni High School. While he is Hopi-Tewa, he is again living in Zuni and has made a series of pieces inspired by classic Zunishapes and designs. This jar has a classic Zuni shape with a high shoulder. There are fourteen Heartline deer painted on the jar. They are separated by plant and rainbird patterns. The neck of the jar is painted with fineline rain designs. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Silas”. It’s exciting to see an artist delve into the past for inspiration.
