Candelaria Suazo is a daughter of potters Joe and Santanita Suazo.  Her sisters include Martha Suazo (the wife of Art Cody Haungooah), Margie Naranjo, Mae Tapia, and Shirley Duran.  She learned to make pottery from her mother.  This miniature bowl is coil-built and fully polished.  It is etched with a stylized hummingbird in one section.  It is surrounded by a water serpent (avanyu) that encircles the piece.  The top has a lighting and star design.  The butterfly is “two-toned” to make the piece black and sienna in coloration.  Note the background matte area and the precision of the vertical incised lines.  The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Candelaria Suazo”.
