Suina, Jeff – “Pine” Geometric Design Bowl
$ 900.00
Jeff Suina works in clay and multi-media. Each piece is made from native clay and painted with mineral clays for the design. This is one of his creative sculptural pieces. The jar is slab-built to create the flat sides. The piece is entitled “Pine”. The jar has numerous angles to create the shape.
Jeff said of this piece:
Mysterious and mesmerizing, Pine is a circular exploration in geometric design. The shape features 4-sided faces with extruded panels and aggressive designs, but that is not what makes it so foreboding. The inner body is divided into two hemispheres: one consisting of unpainted red clay and the other is completely dark. Jeff painted the darker portion with Musou Black, the darkest pigment available commercially. It is so velvetydark that you cannot see into the bottom of the piece. The result is a self-contained work of art with a hidden core of utter darkness.
The scale and dynamic motion in this form is exceptional. Take a closer look at the painted designs. They are all variations of classic Cochiti sun, rain, and lightning designs. Jeff has used the angles of the shape to match the lines of the imagery across the surface. The contrasting positive and negative spaces are visually striking to the eye. The piece is signed, “Jeff Suina”.
