This is a large fully polished bowl by Camilio Tafoya. It is from around 1970-1, before he began dating the pieces.  The bowl is coil-built and fully polished. The piece was fired a deep black and the rim is sienna.  It is simple, but a striking use of form and color.  It was after this time that Camilio, along with Joseph and Grace Medicine Flower, began using sgraffito on the surface of their pottery.  It is signed on the bottom “Camilio Sunflower Tafoya”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
