This is a classic bowl by Camilio Tafoya.  It was made in in1975.  The piece is coil-built and fully polished, even the bottom. There are three butterflies etched onto the sides of the piece.  Each butterfly is different.  Note the matte areas, as that is where Camilio etched away the polished area but left the red slip.  It is a difficult technique but adds to the visual contrasts on the pieces.  All of the etching on his pieces was done before they were fired so that he was able to get the smooth tan coloration in the background.  The piece is signed on the bottom “Camilio Sunflower Tafoya”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
