Tafoya, Camilio – “Women and Warriors” Seedpot (1991)

1.75"w x 1.5"h

$ 500.00

This seedpot by Camilio Tafoya is from 1994-5. It is fully polished and fully designed on top.  The seedpot is one with a story, which is typical of much of his later work.  In the center on top is the “storyteller”.  On the sides are the women with their children. In front of them are the warriors. Note the detail in all the figures and the use of various colors of clay slips.  The bottom of the seedpot is a “sunflower” design, which is symbolic of Camilio’s name in Tewa.  The colors are all added from various clay slips.  Camilio was living with Joseph Lonewolf, his son, at the time he made this.  Joseph would give him the clay slips to use for the colors.  The piece is signed on the bottom “Camilio Sunflower”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
