Tafoya, Jennifer – “Blossoms, Butterflies, and Bees” Large Tan Water Jar

5.5"w x 6"h

$ 4,400.00

Jennifer Tafoya is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures!  Not only is this a larger piece of her pottery, but it is also one of her few tan pieces.  The jar is the natural color of the clay.  The exterior is slipped with several layers of mica to create an even tonation. The neck of the jar is polished tan.  The jar is etched with blooming flowers that extend up from the base of the piece.  They are highlighted with various clay slips.  The colorations on the branches are wonderfully complex.  As the jar is turned there are painted butterflies and a bee.  Each butterfly is painted with depth and movement, as is the bee.  While Jennifer may be well known for her animal portrayals, her flowers are depicted with equal realism and beauty as they flow and bloom across the surface.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.  Definitely an exceptional piece of her pottery art.
