This is a spectacular large three-sided bowl by Jennifer Tafoya. The bowl is thin-walled and fully polished on the sides.  The bottom and interior are slipped with mica.  The three sides create A LOT of space for design panels that each tell a story.  This bowl is entitled, “Just Around the Corner”.  The first panel has two Camarosarus with an Allosaurus in the background.  The next side has two Pachycephalosaurus butting heads.  The final section has a Torvosarus and a Stegosaur. Each section is simply extraordinary in detail.  Jennifer said it took her weeks to just do all the little scales on EACH dinosaur!  Take a closer look at them and they are all fully etched and designed.  I think what makes this piece so exciting is not just the detail, but the scenes she has created. They are not static but create tension and movement.  The title, “Just Around the Corner” takes the shape as a playful means to “walk” one through the past.  When Jennifer creates her dinosaur scenes it also allows her to be creative in design and color, making each dinosaur as “realistic” as it can be in her mind.  I would encourage you to think about larger pieces of Jennifer’s work like a painting in clay, creating a composition of design, story, color, and detail.  This piece is an exciting evolution in her artistry.  Then Jennifer uses various clays to create the colorations on the surface of the piece.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.  Jennifer continues to be one of the leading innovative potters working today!  She most recently won the “Tony Da Award” for innovative pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2019 and “Best of Show” in 2023
