This is a classic water jar by Jennifer Tafoya. It has a round shoulder and a slightly turned-out rim.  The entire piece is fully polished and micaceous slipped inside the neck of the jar.  The jar is etched around the top of the piece with a very intricately designed dragon.  The dragon has amazing detail in the face, and eyes, and check out all the scales!  Jennifer said she depicted the dragon in the clouds so it is surrounded by small birds and stars. The rolling clouds and their coloration are a dramatic part of this jar!  Below the shoulder, there are six traditional dragonflies surrounded by swirling clouds.  The story is that dragonflies are “prayer messengers” and carry prayers to the clouds.  The highly polished surface is a perfect background to the detail on this jar.  All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.
