This is a very detailed bowl by Jennifer Tafoya. The piece is round in shape and very highly polished.  It is fully designed with three koi etched into the clay.  Jennifer pays attention to the small details like the scales on the fish.  Each scale is individually etched!  While the fish are exceptional, take a look at the tails and she manages to capture a sense of their movement in “water”.  Note in the background the water “waves” that have a very Asian appearance to them. After the piece is fully designed she highlights it with various colors of clay slips.  She also uses a bit of mica to give the scales a “sparkle”.  The colorations are dynamic and varied across the surface.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”.  Jennifer continues to be one of the leading innovative potters working today!  She most recently won the “Tony Da Award” for innovative pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2019.
