Tafoya, Jennifer – Seed Jar with Dragonflies (2012)
This is an intricately designed seed jar by Jennifer Tafoya. She is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures! This jar is fully polished and fully designed. On one side is a large red dragonfly Behind the dragonfly are additional designs and a micaceous clay slip. The opposite side has a dragonfly with white-tipped wings. Behind this dragonfly are incised wind swirls! They are each realistically etched into the clay. Separating them are cloud and water designs. The top has a rectangular opening and cloud patterns. The geometric designs are reminiscent of the work of her father, Ray Tafoya. There is a lot of intricate detail work on this piece. All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. Jennifer continues to be one of the leading innovative potters working today! The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Moquino”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
