Tahbo, Mark -Small Eagle Tail Design Jar (1990’s)

4"w x 2.75"h

$ 775.00

Mark Tahbo was known for his painted pottery as well as the thin walls of his vessels.  This small bowl is thin-walled and painted with an eagle tail design in four sections.  The eagle tail extends downward over the shoulder of the bowl.  Note as well how the top section of each of the tails has a different design!  It is also interesting with his use of the white clay.  Note how there is a dark coloration to the white.  Mark rarely used the white kaolin clay and here the white clay has held in the smoke from the intense firing. However, the result is quite striking with a darker gray area inside the white.  It’s always fascinating the unique variations which can be created with the firing!  The jar is signed on the bottom “M. T” and a pipe for Tobacco Clan.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  Definitely a classic of his pottery!
