Talachy, Joe & Thelma – Pojoaque Seedpot with Rain and Plant Designs (1970s)
Joe Talachy (b. 1943) and Thelma Talachy (b. 1942) are two of the few potters from Pojoaque Pueblo in New Mexico. Thelma is a sister of Minnie Vigil, Lois Gutierrez, and Gloria Garcia. Their daughter, Melissa Talachy, is also a well-known potter. Each piece is coil-built and painted with natural clay slips. This seedpot is fully polished red. It is one of their few fully polished pieces. The surface is painted black-and-white creating plant and rain designs. The piece is tightly painted and traditionally fired. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Joe & Thelma Talachy”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
