Joe Talachy (b. 1943) and Thelma Talachy (b. 1942) are two of the few potters from Pojoaque Pueblo in New Mexico. Thelma is a sister of Minnie Vigil, Lois Gutierrez, and Gloria Garcia. Their daughter, Melissa Talachy, is also a well-known potter. Each piece is coil-built and painted with natural clay slips. This is a very intricately painted piece of their pottery. The jar has a round shoulder and an elongated neck. There are six different colors of clay used on this piece, making it a true polychrome (more than three colors). The neck of the jar has a feather pattern. Around the shoulder of the jar are medallions with plant or prayer feather designs in blue. Separating them are mountain and rain designs. The jar was traditionally fired. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Joe & Thelma Talachy”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
