Tapia, Leonidas – Bowl with Sun Design (1970s)

4"w x 5.25"h

$ 175.00

Leonidas Tapia began making pottery in the late 1960s.  She was the mother of potters Tom Tapia and Mary Gutierrez.  This bowl is round and fully polished.  It is etched with a Sun Face Katsina and feathers on part of the bowl.  My guess is that it was etched by either Mary or Tom.  Considering the background matte area, that looks more like Mary’s style of design.  I have seen a few of her pieces with etched designs and I suspect that she would make the piece and then one of her children would etch the design.  It is just signed,  “Leonidas Tapia”.  The piece is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
