This is a large bowl by Tom and Sue Tapia.  The bowl was coil-built, carved, and stone polished by Sue.  The top of the bowl has a carved cloud design.  It is slipped with mica.  Around the sides are four large panels, each is stone polished and fully etched with design.  One has a large sun pattern with three rows of feathers.  The next has Pueblo Deer Dancer with an avanyu and etched feathers.  The next has a Hano Katinsa drummer and a Longhair katsina.  They are surrounded by feather designs.  The last has another Pueblo Deer Dancer surrounded by a turtle, Pueblo scenery, and a Katsina figure.  All the etched areas are highlighted with reddish clay, which is a “signature” clay color for Tom’s pottery designs. Near the base of the bowl is another carved cloud pattern.  The bowl is signed, “Tom & Sue Tapia”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
