Torivio, Frances – Jar with Mountain and Rain Designs (1960s)

4"w x 4"h

$ 250.00

Frances Pino Torivio was known as one of the revivalist Acoma potters in the 1970s.  As one of the Matriarchs of the pueblo, she was influential in teaching other potters at that time. This is a classic Acoma jar and was made in the 1960s.  It is painted with a classic mountain and lightning design around the body of the jar.  Around the neck are lines and dots representing rain.  It is very tightly painted and a great flow of the design. The jar was traditionally fired with very light blushes to the surface. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed, “Mrs. F. Torivio” on the bottom.
