Torivio, Frances – “Mocassin” Canteen (1970s)

3.5"w x 4"h

$ 125.00

Frances Pino Torivio was known as one of the revivalist Acoma potters in the 1970s.  As one of the Matriarchs of the pueblo, she was influential in teaching other potters at that time. This piece is in the shape of a mocassin and painted with fine-line designs.  There is a handle, making it a canteen shape.  The handle is painted with a checkerboard pattern.  The piece is signed on the bottom, “F. Torivio”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair, but with one area of spalling near the bottom (as seen in the photos).
